"JOHN CHILD was born in 1876, and he received his technical education at the East London College and the Northampton Institute. He was employed as a draughtsman with [[Harrild and Sons|Messrs. Harrild and Sons]], printers' engineers, London, for eight years, and in 1900 he joined the staff of [[Crompton and Co|Messrs. Crompton and Company, Ltd]]., Chelmsford, in a similar capacity. Couper, Schwartz and Company]], Liverpool, and later he was appointed buyer for the Portland Cement Company, Gravesend. He founded his own business, [[John Child and Co|Messrs. John Child and Company, Ltd]]., London, of which he was the managing director, in 1910. Except for a period of three years during the Great War when he was employed on Government work, he continued with this business until just before his death, which occurred on 10th October 1939. "JOHN CHILD was born in 1876, and he received his technical education at the East London College and the Northampton Institute. He was employed as a draughtsman with Messrs. Harrild and Sons, printers' engineers, London, for eight years, and in 1900 he joined the staff of Messrs. Crompton and Company, Ltd., Chelmsford, in a similar capacity.
