"JOHN CHILD was born in 1876, and he received his technical education at the East London College and the Northampton Institute. He was employed as a draughtsman with Messrs. Harrild and Sons, printers' engineers, London, for eight years, and in 1900 he joined the staff of Messrs. Crompton and Company, Ltd., Chelmsford, in a similar capacity.
