"ISAAC WESTLEY STOKES was a railway engineer who spent the greater part of his career in India. He was born in 1875 and educated at Reading. He served his apprenticeship in the signal works of the [[Great Western Railway]] at Reading, from 1891, and he later held a position in the signal department of this railway until 1902. In 1903 he was appointed as signal and interlocking engineer to the [[Great Indian Peninsula Railway]], in which position he had sole charge of his particular branch of the engineering department. He was subsequently promoted through various posts to become acting chief transportation superintendent, and it was from this position he retired in 1927. He died at Jersey on 24th May 1939. He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1915." | |||

"ISAAC WESTLEY STOKES was a railway engineer who spent the greater part of his career in India. He was born in 1875 and educated at Reading. He served his apprenticeship in the signal works of the Great Western Railway at Reading, from 1891, and he later held a position in the signal department of this railway until 1902.
