PHILIP HOLT WHITAKER was associated with the firm of Messrs. Brierly and Holt, civil engineers, Blackburn, Lancashire, from his apprenticeship, which he served from 1894 to 1898, until the time of his death, which occurred on 5th June 1943, in his sixty-sixth year. He was first appointed assistant and later chief assistant to the managing director.
Since 1904 he had been a partner and took an active part in the design and construction of sewerage works and pumping installations, in addition to consultative work on other engineering contracts of public utility. He was called upon by the Lancashire County Council to prepare a detailed scheme when a proposed barrage for the river Wyre was under consideration.
Mr. Holt Whitaker was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1912. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
