c.1770 Messrs. Lamb and Waldie began the first soapery in the Newcastle area at the Westgate
Later moved to the Close.
1775 The works were purchased by Mr. Thomas Doubleday
Continued under the firm of Doubleday and Easterby until the year 1841.
