EDWARD BLYTHE was born at Pitsmoor, Sheffield, on 26th May 1881, and received his early education at local establishments in Sheffield.
His apprenticeship during 1896-1902 was spent in the works and drawing office of Messrs. John Brown and Co., Ltd., of the Atlas Steel Works, Sheffield.
On completing his indentures, he remained a short time in the Atlas Works, and then became engineer-draughtsman with Messrs. Graham, Morton and Co., Leeds.
In 1904 he left to enter the Frodingham Iron and Steel Works as draughtsman, and in the following year he secured appointment as mechanical assistant in the Corporation of Hull Electricity Works.
Five years later, in 1910, he was advanced to the position of chief draughtsman, with increased responsibility in respect to various extensions then in course of construction.
Mr. Blythe remained with the Hull Corporation up to the time of his death which occurred on 2nd May 1925.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1913.
