"DONALD BRAITHWAITE COLE was born in 1885 and received his early education in London. His technical education was obtained at the Goldsmiths' Institute, London, the Newark School of Art, Notts, and the Southend Technical College, Essex. As an apprentice he served with the Thames Ironworks, Shipbuilding, and Engineering Company, Ltd., from 1902 to 1905, and with Messrs. T. and W. Bradley, Ltd., Newark on Trent, from 1905 to 1906.
He then spent six months as an assistant in the hydraulic engineering department of the Regent's Canal and Dock Company. He joined Messrs. T. and W. Cole, Ltd., as a draughtsman in 1906, and when he left this firm in 1909 he was assistant works manager. For the following year he held the post of draughtsman in the St. Pancras Iron Work Company, Ltd., London, and in 1910 he became works manager in the firm of Messrs. W. and L. Cole, Ltd., London. Later he held the position of foreign representative of this company until 1912, when he commenced practice as a consulting engineer. He acted in this capacity in France and the United States, as well as in this country. He joined the staff of the Quasi-Arc Company, Ltd., early in its history, and subsequently he became sales manager for this company.
He died on 18th April 1939 from the results of an accident. He was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1907 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1913."
