Captain JOHN LOCKWOOD MARSH, of the York and Lancaster Regiment, was killed in action in Flanders on October 16, 1915. He was born in April 1883, and received his education at the Sheffield Royal Grammar School, Uppingham, and on the Continent.
He then joined the firm of Marsh Brothers and Company, Limited, Steel and File Manufacturers, Pond's Steel Works, Sheffield, as director and secretary. He travelled extensively abroad for his firm, and possessed a thorough technical knowledge of steel manufacture.
He had been thirteen years in the Territorial Forces, and was promoted captain in 1913. On the outbreak of war he was mobilised, and went abroad with his battalion in April 1915.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1906.
