Robert Scholey, (1921-2014) industrialist, chairman of British Steel

1921 October 8th. Born at Sheffield the son of Harold Scholey

Apprenticeship at Steel, Peech and Tozer, while studying engineering at Sheffield University four evenings a week.

1943 Joined the army, serving mostly in India in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

1946 Married to Joan Methley (two daughters)

1947 Joined United Steel Companies

1972 Moved to head office of British Steel

1973 Became CEO

1986 Appointed chairman

1992 Retired from British Steel

2014 January 12th. Died Much Hadham, Hertfordshire.
