William Harvey Du Cros (who had helped to form the Pneumatic Tyre and Booths Cycle Agency Ltd.) also provided finance to Byrne Bros, a Birmingham business engaged in the production of general rubber goods.
1896 Byrne Bros was acquired by the Rubber Tyre Manufacturing Co which was then floated on the stock market[2]. The company was based at Para Mill with the intention of building a new factory, Manor Mills, alongside it. The company's freehold works were built by William Tranter, gun and pistol manufacturer.
