EDWIN CHARLES CARNT, Managing Director of Messrs. White’s shipbuilding and engineering works at Cowes, died at Wootton, I.W., on the 5th August, 1915.
Born in 1858, he entered the engineering branch of the Royal Navy in 1873, and served afloat and at dockyards and construction works until 1896, when he was appointed to the staff of the Director of Dockyards at the Admiralty.
Two years later he was permitted to resign from the Navy in order to join Messrs. White’s firm, where he specialized in the design and construction of high-speed light war vessels and machinery.
He was elected a Member on the 14th January, 1913.
