1829 Joel Spiller, son of a Somerset ironmonger, established a flour milling business in Bridgwater

1850 His cousin, Joel Spiller, patented an ingenious arrangement for cleansing and separating wheat. The machine was exhibited in the Great Exhibition of 1851. This apparatus was employed in his last important work at Battersea, which was a steam flour mill for his cousin, Mr. Joel Spiller, of Bridgewater.
