CHARLES LEVEN was born in Denmark and was educated at the Polytechnic Institute, Copenhagen.
He then went as a pupil for five years with the Klein Engineering Co. in that city. On completing his articles he obtained a travelling scholarship and went to the United States, where he was employed in the laboratory and test rooms of the Ansonia Electric Co.
Subsequently he was for several years on the staff of the Crocker-Wheeler Co. and eventually came to England in 1897, where he became Managing Director of Messrs. H. M. Salmony and Co.
When the Lahmeyer Co. of Frankfort started business in this country they appointed him General Manager of the Lahmeyer Electrical Co., and later he became Managing Director.
From 1907 he was for many years Managing Director of the Electrical Engineering and Equipment Co.
which carried out a number of power plant installations. In 1921 he founded a company, of which he was Chairman and Managing Director, to carry out electric motor installations, and in 1937 another company in connection with the supply of carbons and rectifiers.
He died on the 29th May, 1942, at the age of 78.
He was elected a Member of The Institution in 1901.
