DAVID MARTIN, O.B.E., who died on the 19th January, 1942, in his 68th year, was a well-known figure in engineering, shipbuilding and mining circles.
A native of Glasgow, he was educated at Allan Glen's School and the Technical College, Glasgow (then known as the College of Science and Arts).
For a time he was assistant to Prof. Jamieson at the latter. He then went to a post in Birmingham and came back to Glasgow as Manager of Mechans Ltd., Scotstoun.
Thereafter he joined the firm of Messrs. A. Reyrolle & Co. as Manager for Scotland and occupied that position for over 30 years.
As a colour sergeant he went to France early in the last war with the 5th Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). He attained the rank of major and was the author of the 5th Battalion S.R. War History. For a period during the war he was transferred to the Ministry of Munitions as Chief Investigation Officer for the West Midland Division and was awarded the O.B.E. in June, 1918.
He was elected an Associate Member of The Institution in 1913 and a Member in 1926.
