Bevel gear, sans teeth

in Compton Dando, near Pensford, Somerset

Now a house known as 'The Old Mill'.

This was a corn mill, one of several mills served by the River Chew between Pensford and Keynsham. It was downstream of Woodborough Mill.

The 1883/1885 25" OS map shows that the mill was served by a broad leat running from a weir located approx 200 yds to the west.
