Simultaneously he read for the science degree of the University of London, and graduated recently as a Bachelor of Science. WILLIAM RALPH BATES, B.Sc., A.R.S.M., died in London on May 14, 1923.
Educated privately, and at the Orme Boys' School, Mr. Bates worked for some years as an analytical chemist at the ironworks of the Shelton Iron, Steel and Coal Company.
Later he studied for four years at the Royal School of Mines, South Kensington, and obtained his Associateship. Simultaneously he read for the science degree of the University of London, and graduated recently as a Bachelor of Science. Mr. Bates had also been admitted as an Associate of the Institute of Chemistry.
