JOSEPH APPLETON, an Original Member of the Institute, died on March 29, 1928, at the St. Helens Hospital, aged sixty-eight.


He served his apprenticeship with [[Baxter and Co|Messrs. Baxter & Co., Ltd.]], Chemical Manufacturers, St. Helens, as chemist, afterwards joining his father in the brass foundry which he started in St. Helens.
On the death of his father he entered into partnership with [[George Howard|Mr. George Howard]] of Warrington, and increased the business, until the present company was floated, when Mr. Appleton became first managing director, holding this position until his death.
Being of a retiring disposition, he did not take any prominent part in politics or the business of the town.

JOSEPH APPLETON, an Original Member of the Institute, died on March 29, 1928, at the St. Helens Hospital, aged sixty-eight.

He served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Baxter & Co., Ltd., Chemical Manufacturers, St. Helens, as chemist, afterwards joining his father in the brass foundry which he started in St. Helens.

On the death of his father he entered into partnership with Mr. George Howard of Warrington, and increased the business, until the present company was floated, when Mr. Appleton became first managing director, holding this position until his death.

Being of a retiring disposition, he did not take any prominent part in politics or the business of the town.
