1923 Obituary [1]
EDOUARD DREUX, the managing director of the Societe des Acieries de Longwy, died suddenly on March 12, 1923, after attending a business meeting.
He was born in 1876, and received his technical training at the Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, where he took his diploma in 1900.
He commenced his business career by travelling abroad for several years, visiting important iron and steel works, at several of which he served for some little time in order to acquire experience.
He then joined the staff of the Mont-Saint-Martin works, where he devoted his whole energies to the development and modernisation of the works - a task in which he was notably successful. It was, therefore, with great grief that he learned, while serving with the artillery before Verdun, of the total and systematic destruction of those works. He was later withdrawn from the front and employed on munitions work, in which capacity he formed a large shell factory at Aubervilliers, and soon after, another at St. Denis.
On the declaration of the armistice he returned to the St. Martin works, to the reconstruction of which he devoted himself, and there is little doubt that the incessant work he undertook with this object accelerated to no small extent his early demise.
He was one of the editorial committee of the Revue de Mitallurgie, and joined the Iron and Steel Institute in 1903. He often attended its meetings, and acted in 1921 as one of the hosts on the occasion of the Paris meeting.
