THOMAS RICHARD CANNING. Mr. T. R. Canning, Deputy Chairman of W. Canning and Company, Ltd., Birmingham, died on 15 January 1946, in his eighty-first year.
As a young man, Mr. Canning entered the Birmingham works of his uncle, Mr. W. Canning, who was engaged in developing the silver plating industry. Into this, as in all other tasks he tackled, he threw himself whole-heartedly, taking a keen interest in all the processes.
During the 'eighties, he made a close study of nickel plating and laid the foundations of the largest business of its kind in Europe.
