STEUART Faire served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Kitson and Company, of Leeds, after having been educated at Marlborough College and Tiverton.
In 1896 he went to India to erect engines for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway on Messrs. Kitson's behalf.
Four years later he became locomotive superintendent to the Natal and Nova Cruz Brazilian Railway, and in the following year transferred to the Great Western of Brazil Railway as chief assistant locomotive superintendent.
In 1908 he was promoted to be locomotive superintendent.
In 1910 he became works manager to the Chinese Government Railways at Tongshan, North China.
In 1922 he was appointed representative of the British Locomotive Manufacturers' Association at Peking, and in 1927 he retired.
In March 1929 he went to Moscow to represent the Locomotive Manufacturers' Association of England.
Mr. Fripp died on the 13th September 1929, at the age of 54.
He became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1900 and was transferred to Membership in 1914.
