DUNCAN MCCALL was born in Leith, in 1871, and received his education at the High School in that town and at the Moray House Normal College, Edinburgh; also, during his apprenticeship, he studied at the Leith Science School and at the Heriot-Watt College, Edinburgh.
In 1886 he was apprenticed with Messrs. James Bertram and Sons, Engineers, in his native town, passing through the full course of shops and drawing-office training, and when he left in 1894 he gained further experience as a draughtsman with Messrs. Davis and Primrose, also of Leith, and as chief draughtsman with Messrs. Andrew Gillespie and Son, Glasgow.

Early in the War business and other conditions recalled Mr. McCall to Scotland, but he subsequently returned to India to take up the position of resident engineer at the Hirapur Works, Asansol, of the Indian Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.
About three years later he was appointed general manager to the Britannia Engineering Co., Ltd., Titaghur, Bengal, and this position he held up to the time of his death which occurred in October 1925.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1907.
