Claude Walter Lionel Baily (1902-1988)
1902 September 21st. Born in Twickenham the son of John Robert Baily, Coach Furniture Manufacturers of London, and grandson of Walter Payton, early pioneer of pneumatic machinery.
1911 Living at 11 The Green, Twickenham: John Baily (age 73 born Chelsea), Retired Coach Builder. With his wife Catherine Baily (age 46 born Kensington) and their two sons Leslie Baily (age 12 born Twickenham) and Claud Baily (age 8 born Twickenham).[1]
Educated at Richmond Hill School, Surrey and Henry Thornton School, Clapham Junction. Received technical training in Mechanical Engineering at Regent Street, London Polytechnic.
1918-26 Apprenticed to Anzani Engine Co., London.
1928 Joined Morris Engines Ltd., Coventry and later became Chief draughtsman and Assistant Chief Designer.
1940 Took charge of Jaguar's Engine Design Development
1948 Appointed Chief Designer, Jaguar Cars Ltd., Coventry.
1963 Married Emily Thomson
