ARTHUR HUGHES TWELLS, served his apprenticeship in the shops and drawing office of [[Dunsmuir and Jackson|Messrs. Dunsmuir and Jackson]], engineers, of Govan. He was then employed for the next eight years in the marine engine works of various firms on the North East Coast, including [[Earle's Shipbuilding and Engineering Co|Messrs. Earle's Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Ltd.]], Hull, where he was an improver, and [[Wigham Richardson|Messrs. Wigham, Richardson and Company, Ltd.]], of Newcastle upon Tyne, for whom he was engaged as draughtsman. During this period he was also leading draughtsman to [[Thomas Richardson|Messrs. Thomas Richardson and Sons, Ltd.]], of Hartlepool, for three years.

Ashwell and Nesbit, Ltd.]], of Leicester, but two years later he began to practice as a consulting engineer and continued in that business at Leicester up to the time of his death, which occurred on 13th March 1946.
