Robert Smith Shaw was born in 1885, and received his engineering education at the Dundee Technical Institute.
He was apprenticed with William Robertson of Perth, and subsequently remained with the firm as Journeyman and Shop Foreman.
During the War he served as a Workshops Officer in the East African Expeditionary Force, and on the conclusion of hostilities he was appointed Consulting Engineer to the General Accident, Fire and Life Assurance Corporation, having charge also of the Company's motor fleet.
He died on 10th February, 1939, at the age of 53.
He was elected an Associate Member in 1920 and transferred to Member in 1935.
