Woodford Pilkington (c1829-1913), civil engineer
c.1829 Born in Trinidad the son of Captain George Pilkington R.E.
1841 At school in Croydon[1]
Apprenticed to his father as a civil engineer; then undertook civil works of increasing responsibility in various towns in South Africa, including municipal works, harbour works and lighthouses.[2]
1857 Resident engineer of British Kaffraria.[3]
1860s His children were born in Cape of Good Hope[4]
1865 Member of Inst Civil Engineers; engaged in harbour works in Brazil[5]
1871 A civil engineer, living in Streatham, with Charlotte Pilkington 27, Charlotte Clara Pilkington 7, Kate Augustus Pilkington 4, William A. C. Pilkington 1 Year, 7 Months[6]
1876 of Balham House, Balham Hill, London S W[7]
1880 Resident engineer of the harbour works, Quebec.[8]
1890 Supervised the building of the Dondra head and Berberyn Island lighthouses, coast of Ceylon.[9]
1896 Employed by Rouse and Co, Fenchurch St, London[10]
1899 Death of his second son Ralph Woodford Pilkington, age 20, of the Indian Police.[11]
1901 Civil engineer, working on own account, living in Kidbrooke with Kate Pilkington 57, and Kathleen Pilkington 33[12]
1911 Living at Brooklands Cottage, Blackheath Road, Blackheath: Woodford Pilkington (age 82 born Trinadad), Retired civil engineer. With his wife Kate Pilkington (age 67 born South Africa) and their two children Kathleen Pilkington (age 44 born South Africa) and W. A. C. Pilkington (male) (age 41 born South Africa), Military Office - Retired.[13]
1913 January 22nd. Died in Woolwich[14]
