Hook Norton Brewery
1849 John Harris moved to Hook Norton, purchasing a farm of 52 acres that included a malthouse. He expanded the business by becoming a dealer in hops.
c.1856 commercial brewing started.
1859 purchase of a beer house at Down End.
1860 Purchased the Pear Tree Inn at the end of Brewery Lane.
1880s The extension of the Chipping Norton railway line into Hook Norton brought a new set of customers (the navvies) as well as providing a means of transporting raw materials, equipment and beer.
By 1907 the tied estate consisted of over 14 tied houses and four beerhouses.
Today, the Hook Norton Brewery estate consists of 44 tied houses.
