"The Late Mb. W. A. E. Woodman.— We regret to record the death, on August 7 last, at the early age of 59, of Mr. Walter Arthur Edgar Woodman, for the past 20 years, research engineer of Messrs. Vacuum Oil Company, Limited, Caxton House, Westminster, London, S.W.I. Mr. Woodman served his apprenticeship at the works of Messrs. George Fletcher and Company, Limited, Derby, and afterwards went to Messrs. Simpson Strickland, Dartmouth. Subsequently, he joined the staff of the Liquid Fuel Company, Cowes, Isle of Wight, and after remaining in their service for some time, he proceeded to Hollinwood and entered the works of Messrs. Ferranti, Limited, in which he worked for a number of years in dose association with the late Dr. Ferranti on steam-turbine development. Subsequently, this work was taken over by Messrs. Vickers, Limited, Barrow-in-Furness, with whom Mr. Woodman stayed for a short time before joining Messrs. Vacuum Oil Company, Limited, as research engineer in 1912. He was the designer of the Delvao mechanical lubricator, ' which is extensively used on Diesel engines and other machinery in all parts of the world."
