ALFRED JULIUS BOULT, who was a founder member of the Royal Automobile Club, was one of those who successfully completed the London to Brighton course at the celebration of the removal of the old red-flag law. He was also at one time well known as a swimmer and a long-distance cyclist.
In 1881 he became a partner in the firm of Messrs. W. P. Thompson and Boult, patent agents, reconstituted in 1894 as Messrs. Boult and Wade.
Five years later, with the addition of Messrs. Kilburn and Tennant, the title was altered to Messrs. Boult, Wade, and Kilburn, and finally in 1905, following the setting up of an independent practice by Mr. Kilburn, the style of the firm was changed to its present form of Messrs. Boult, Wade, and Tennant. Throughout this period Mr. Boult remained a partner until his retirement from practice in 1912.
He had been a Member of the Institution since 1886, and his death occurred in his eighty-fifth year on 28th March 1932.
