FRANCIS HOWLETT was born in Norfolk in 1845 and became a partner in the firm of Messrs. Clayton, Howlett and Venables, into whose works he had entered early in life. The chief work of the firm was the manufacture of brick-making and laundry machinery.
In 1900 the business was acquired by the Brightside Foundry and Engineering Company, for whom Mr. Howlett acted as London manager for many years.
He was elected a Member of the Institution as long ago as 1877, and at the time of his death, on 24th May 1929, he was 84 years of age.
He was an expert colour photographer.
