Major-Gen. K. C. Appleyard, CBE, TD, (Member) a prominent industrialist in the N East, died recently at the age of 73.

In 1916 he was commissioned in the Territorial. Army, Royal Engineers, becoming a Colonel in 1937 and in the same year was awarded the OBE. Three years later he was appointed one of the directors of the Labour Supply Board, under the chairmanship of Mr Ernest Bevin.

Gen. Appleyard, who was a former president of the Institution of Production Engineers, was made a Member of this Institution in 1938.

The Institution has lost a distinguished member and friend with his death.
