1980 A company formed by 4 leading academics in the field (Peter John Lawrenson and Michael Stephenson at Leeds University, William Ray and Rex Davis at Nottingham University) with the aim of commercializing their new technology through licensing.

Switched reluctance machines were developed for a diverse range of industrial, commercial, and automotive applications.

1991 Lawrenson resigned his academic post to devote his full attention to the growing business.

1994 The company was acquired by Emerson Electric

2010 Acquired by Nidec Corporation of Japan.
