The initial installation of plant at the Llanarth Street site in 1895 comprised horizontal compound engines coupled by ropes to Hall dynamos. The plant had a rating of 350 kW. [1]

Babcock and Wilcox boilers. The three engines were of the E. P. Allis type, made by Markham and Co [2]
