'colt Wa.\1 in hU> forty-<'ighth year, and was the elde,t son of the late )lr. John Scott, C.B. The 'cott family, through its firm, UO\\ knO\\ n as 'coLt's hipbuilding and Engineering Company, Ltmited, of Greenock, has long hecn associated with the Cl) de shipbuilding industry. The late Mr. :-;colt was the head of the sixth generation of shipbuilden~, t>O that the family connection with the industry has now extended over the best part of two centuries. I n 1903, on tho death of his father, he became a managing director, and in 1905, on the death of his uncle, Mr. R. S. cott, he was appointed to the chairmanship of the company.
