1872 Went on voyage to South America and back as an extra engineer.

1876 Became a partner in R. and W. Hawthorn
1879 of Corbridge, became an Associate Member of the Inst Civil Engineers
1889 Married Annie Grace Hill
1911 Charles Edmund Straker 58, engineer, lived in Hexham with Grace A Straker 51, Arthur Straker 19, student[1]
1934 Died in High Warden, Northumberland[2]
