1846 Entered the works of Mr Andrew Handyside in Derby

1856 became Managing Partner of the works

c.1857 In sole control of the constructional works of the company, including a wide range of bridges, station buildings, etc

1873 Became engineer Managing Director of the company

1878 Member of Inst Civil Engineers

1911 Alexander Buchanan 81, civil engineer, lived in Derby with Emily Buchanan 83, Susie Buchanan 46[1]
