Van Staadens Railway Bridge

Also known as Van Stadens Bridge
This remarkable steel trestle bridge was completed in 1905 to carry the 2 ft gauge Port Elizabeth-Avontuur Railway line over the Van Staadens Gorge. The depth from the rail level to the bottom of the gorge is 255 ft.
The construction of the bridge is described in some detail here[1]. The authors were John Calvert Andrew and Alan Trevanian Grant-Dalton, the son of Alan Grant-Dalton.
