1877 Opened connecting Rangoon with Prome and totalled 161 Miles. Rail transport was introduced in Burma (when part of British India) with the opening of the Rangoon-to-Prome line. The line followed the Irrawaddy River, and was built over three-years period. It was built to 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) metre gauge.
