1945 The Bowers and Paulton Company was incorporated; renamed almost immediately as Bowers and Wilkins Ltd
1965 John Bowers assembled speaker systems by hand for local clients in Worthing, West Sussex, in the back of the electrical store that he ran with his friend Roy Wilkins.
1966 John Bowers and Peter Hayward founded B&W Electronics Ltd with the aid of a bequest from Miss Knight; developed the first Bowers & Wilkins loudspeaker: the P1.
1968 Domestic monitors, DM1 and DM3, provided less expensive options.
1974 Kevlar® identified as suitable material for driver cones
1979 800 series introduced offering high-end speaker design. The 801 was used in recording studios and by audiophiles.
1981 Formation of Steyning Research Establishment, with a team of specialist acoustic and electronics engineers.
1987 Death of John Bowers
Further innovations were introduced based on work at Steyning and elsewhere.
