JOHN DANIEL WILTON was the managing director of Wilton's Engineering and Slipway Company, Rotterdam, with which he had been associated throughout his professional career.
He was educated at the Hull Municipal Technical School and served apprenticeships between 1892 and 1901 with the Wilton Engineering and Slipway Company and Earle's Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Ltd., Hull, in the employment of which he continued as junior draughtsman for a further three years.
He then began his long association with the Wilton Engineering and Slipway Company with the post of assistant inside manager and four years later was promoted to be inside manager. He had been managing director since 1910. In this capacity he was responsible for new construction, which included dredgers, tugs, cargo and passenger ships and their machinery.
Mr. Wilton was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1908 and transferred to Membership in 1925. He was also a Member of the Institution of Naval Architects.
His death occurred on 16th April 1952.
