Sir Ernest Woodhouse Smith, pioneer in fuel technology
1907 Appointed by the Institution of Gas Engineers to work as Leeds University - the first such appointment of a research chemist
of the Birmingham Gas Department's Research Laboratory
1920 Moved to be technical director of the Woodhall-Duckham companies at the invitation of Sir Arthur Duckham
1944 Entered public service. He was one of the founders of the Gas Research Board
President of the Institute of Fuel and of the Smoke Abatement Society
1960 Died
