The gasworks at Feijenoord on the Mallegat was opened in 1879. It was the first municipal gas factory in Rotterdam. It closed in 1968, following the adeoption of North Sea gas. Today the site is Mallegat Park. Two spherical gas domes and the 1910 water tower have been retained.[1]
