Burnholme and Forder

1964 Public company; shares began trading.[1] 'Burnholme carries sheet steel from Cheshire to Scotland and carries firebricks back. Forder runs services from Bingley, Yorkshire, to the docks at Hull and Liverpool and carries raw materials back.'[2]

1966 First general meeting; 7 subsidiary companies at the time the company went public and 2 more had been acquired since then[3]
1971 After several small acquisitions in the transport field, the company made 2 engineering acquisitions and disposed of some subsidiaries - acquired a private company Parcbond, which had agreed to acquire Premac Engineering (Dunstable) and Keland Ltd[4]. Beechmount Investment Co gained a majority shareholding in Burnholme and Forder[5]
1972 Acquired Clawford Haulage but failed in a bid to take over Nationwide Leisure[6]. Acquired Motor Rail[7]. The company was based in Luton at this time[8]. The engineering division was sold to Motor Rail; two depots out of 5 in the transport division were closed; the other part of the company was the property division[9]
1973 Withdrew entirely from transport activities[10]
1974 The company was the subject of a DTI investigation. Acquired 35 percent of electronics group Brayhead[11]
1976 Brayhead was being wound up[12]
1979 The DTI report questioned the independence of the auditors in terms of them both compiling and then reporting on a profit forecast[13]
1980 Both Burnholme and Forder and Brayhead were in liquidation[14]
