William Francis, PhD, (1817–1904)

1817 Born son of Richard Taylor (1781-1858) and Frances Marshall Francis (1797–1854); they were not married although Frances was described at her death as the 'widow of Richard Francis, printer'.

Studied chemistry and biology in Germany at Giessen and Berlin

1852 was taken into partnership by the publisher Richard Taylor, the firm becoming Taylor and Francis
