1945 Worked for other companies on general mechanical and electrical engineering
1947 Returned to the coal industry, where automated technology from Europe was being introduced
1957 Went to work for a supplier of mining machinery
1960 Set up Mining Supplies, a business to make machinery for coal mining, especially cutting discs, picks and other ancillary equipment used with the Anderton Shearer Loader, based on his 20+ years experience in the mining industry[1]
1965 The company supplied a large proportion of the ancillary equipment used by Anderson Loaders operated by the National Coal Board.
