1895 Description and illustration of quadruple flashing dioptric apparatus, which contained many new features. It was based on the French system: the optic arrangement and its table, which weigh together 2 tons 11 cwt., are borne on a bath of mercury. The whole work, from the designs of W. T. Douglass, M. Inst. C.E., consulting lighthouse engineer to the Cape Government, was carried out by Chance Brothers and Co. of Birmingham.[1]
