Maschinenfabrik Esslingen AG, based in Esslingen near Stuttgart, manufactured locomotives, railcars , trams , funiculars , railway carriages , roller stands , railway equipment ( turntables , transfer platforms ), bridges and steel structures , pumps and boilers , and several diesel engines.
Founded in 1846 by Emil Kessler (b. 1813), who brought experience from Karlsruhe , where he had been co-owner (since 1837) and sole owner (from 1842) of the Maschinenbau-Gesellschaft Karlsruhe .
The company's first locomotive was delivered to the Royal Württemberg State Railways.
After Emil Kessler's death in 1867, his then 26-year-old son, also Emil Kessler, took over the work, continuing until the end of 1885.
From 1907 onwards, Emil Kessler's youngest son Ludwig was in charge. The firm became involved in the construction of electric locomotives .....
Taken over by Daimler-Benz in 1965. Conveyor production went to Still GmbH in 1968.
