Charles Wallace Chapman
Charles Wallace Chapman was born in Lancaster in 1897 and educated at the Royal Lancaster Grammar School.
After leaving school he was apprenticed to the Vickers engineering company at Barrow-in-Furness.
During World War One, as a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve he was employed on anti-submarine projects.
After the war he studied at the University of Liverpool and was awarded an M.Sc. in engineering.
