Kelly Patent Cycles

Kelly was a motorcycle produced in 1921 by Kelly Patent Cycles of Black Lion Street, Brighton, Sussex.
This very primitive design had an unconventional open frame. It had a 318cc two-stroke Dalm engine and two-speed Sturmey-Archer gearbox, and was sprung by means of a leaf spring together with the rider's saddle and a rear carrier, to give insulation from road shocks.
The model was tested by a reporter from a specialist magazine and found to be unstable, as the drive became deranged. Tests were curtailed and modifications were supposed to be in hand, but nothing further came of the enterprise.
