G. Horstmann and Sons
c.1850 Gustav Horstmann, foreman of a clock and watchmakers in London, established a business in Bath as Gustav Horstmann, Watch and Clock Maker, and Jeweller.
Later the company became G. Horstmann and Sons. He brought 4 of his sons into the business as apprentices.
1893 Gustav Horstmann died in April, with around one hundred patents to his name.
A clockwork gas controller was introduced for the automatic control of street lighting for the Bath Gas and Coke Co. Production of the gas controllers was transferred from G. Horstmann and Sons to The Horstmann Gear Co Ltd.
