1864 Patent. '2515. To James Slater, of Salford, in the county of Lancaster, Chain Maker, for the invention of "improvements in toothed chains for working toothed or chain wheels."'[3]
1866 Patent. '2907. And Samuel Hand, of Hulme, and James Slater, of Salford, both in the county of Lancaster, have given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in railway signals."'[4]
