Allwood Brothers

of Wivelsfield Nurseries, Haywards Heath, Sussex. Telephone: Burgess Hill 262
Three brothers founded the nursery in 1910. Montagu, George and Edward Allwood originally came from Lincolnshire and moved to West Sussex in search of cheap land, which they found in the village of Wivelsfield.
Over the years Allwoods made many, now famous introductions, amongst these were the Allwoodii range, such as Doris, one of the most famous pinks in existance.
After Montagu died in 1958 Allwoods was sold and passed out of the family.
Over the years the firm had many owners with different ideas of how to make a living from it.
The nursery was in a very poor state, being "run-down" for closure but it was bought in time to rescue the famous and unique collection of plants.
In 2001 Allwoods moved from a rented site to settle into Summerfield Nursery.
